Museum of Somerset

Museum of Somerset
Hotfoot it to Taunton’s 12th-century castle and you’ll find the Museum of Somerset inside.

Somerset’s story, from prehistoric times to the modern day, is presented here in the museum’s geology, archaeology, medieval and military collections. The museum is also now home to the Frome Hoard – a huge collection of Roman coins in a giant clay pot, found in 2010 by Dave Crisp and his metal detector!

For schools, there’s a programme of 90-minute curriculum-linked sessions for all age groups.
