Museum of Somerset

Museum of Somerset
Hotfoot it to Taunton’s 12th-century castle and you’ll find the Museum of Somerset inside.

Somerset’s story, from prehistoric times to the modern day, is presented in the museum’s geology, archaeology, medieval and military collections. The museum is also home to the Frome Hoard – a huge collection of Roman coins in a big clay pot, found in 2010 by Dave Crisp and his metal detector!

Children’s Wood and Hankridge Riverside

Children’s Wood and Hankridge Riverside
A nature reserve created by planting a tree for every baby born in Taunton Deane since 1992!

An important habitat for plants and animals, this lovely wood and riverside area is open every day during daylight hours. Wildlife you might be lucky enough to see includes otters, kingfishers, mute swans, herons and reed warblers. The reserve is also a haven for trout and salmon, butterflies, dragonflies and damselflies – and if you’re still there at dusk, you might just spot a few bats!
